Search & websites / Field notes

What an SEO-ready website actually needs.

Clear pages, useful content, descriptive metadata, and a technically accessible site are the foundations to get right.

Give each important service its own home

A dedicated service page can explain who a service is for, what it includes, and what happens next. Use a descriptive URL and link to it from the relevant overview and articles. Avoid creating near-identical pages just to repeat keywords.

Make the purpose obvious

A clear page title, a useful description, and an organised heading structure help explain the content. Write for a person making a decision. Metadata should describe the actual page, and the main heading should match its purpose.

Keep the experience usable

Make navigation work on small screens, use readable text, and keep links meaningful. Optimise image files and provide suitable alternative text. Search-friendly content should also be easy for visitors to use.

Check the technical foundations

Review crawl access, canonical URLs, redirects, and the sitemap when a site launches or changes. A redesign can accidentally remove useful URLs or leave a staging noindex setting active. Preserve existing URLs where possible and map changed ones carefully.

Measure after launch

Use verified search and analytics data to understand what is happening. A theme can provide good technical foundations, but visibility also depends on content, competition, and ongoing work. No theme can guarantee a ranking.
